VGC’s “Vichitra” Outing
We swung by “Vichitra”, the inspirational ad filmmaker and photographer Tejal Patni’s latest immersive art exhibition last month.
While words cannot sum up the way the exhibition makes one feel, “surreal” and “absurd” are two words that come to our minds.
Coming from the background of a commercial photographer, he interprets aspects of his professional work through a very unique artistic lens that can only be described as “Vichitra”.
What really left us all in awe was how the inspiration for the art came about. During his travel in Delhi, Tejal chanced across an unfinished building, which evoked in him a surreal fascination as he glimpsed into the personal lives of strangers.
And how did he choose to bring alive his vision?
Through a brilliant and disruptive mixture of dark humor, irony, fantasy, and mystery involving surreal sets, live actors, intriguing videos and enigmatic music.
Tejal’s creation once again manages to explore the true power of art, for this experience has left us motivated and inspired beyond our expectations as creatives and artists ourselves!
There is an increasing tribe of advertising and design professionals who are bravely stepping out from their ‘commercial’ roles and expressing their inner artistic oeuvres, and this incredibly immersive and clutter-breaking exhibition is the perfect example of such artistry. To my mind, Tejal helped set a whole new benchmark in Indian as well as international contemporary art.
