AN ICONIC INSTITUTION GETS A BRAND NEW AVATAR BY CONVERGING LEGACY AND A NEW-AGE VISION
The Indian Institute of Science, one of the world’s leading science and technology universities, approached VGC to redesign their identity. This was the first time in the university’s (over) 100-year history that an exercise like this had been undertaken. The original logo had been in place from the 1950s and over the years, several manifestations of the original logo had been in use across the campus. To counter this and bring in a sense of synchronicity, IISc decided to proceed with a redesign of their brand.
To kick start this, in 2018, Vyas Giannetti Creative was asked to come on board. A branding committee was appointed and the exercise began. After months of immersion, research & strategy development, VGC was able to develop IISc’s new brand proposition – Discover & Innovate. Transform & Transcend. Serve & Lead.
The new identity is inspired by the perpetual motion & dynamism of the atom, the wisdom & transcending capabilities of the lotus, and the flame of knowledge. It embraces change while also maintaining a level of continuity.
The old logo was elevated into a seal that will sit on official documentation, degree certificates, and more. The exercise also included designing a signage & navigation system for the 100+ acre campus, a brand architecture for all divisions and departments, and much more.
